A little about the role

Firstly, you’d need to be kind and caring and have empathy for those who have suffered a bereavement; in fact, that’s a necessity for every role here. Like administrative colleagues we would need you to demonstrate higher standards of working than most mainstream employers require; compassion, attention to detail, diplomacy and an uncompromising desire to serve others. We are proud to be able to serve and carry out funerals for every sector of the community – the loss of someone special affects all of us whoever and whatever we are. At times, you may be assisting on a Burial of WWII veteran (thank you for serving) and hours later involved in the transfer into our care of a young lady who died in a Hospice. Sure, it’s challenging, but it’s worthwhile too; worthwhile because you can make a difference.

A bit more information

General Funeral Service Operatives play an integral part in the day to day running of our company, their working day is varied and may include:

  • Attendance at a family home, hospital or care home to transfer a person who has passed away into our care
  • Preparation and cleaning of equipment and vehicles for funerals
  • Workshop duties in the preparation of coffins and caskets
  • Delivery, checking and collection of various forms of paperwork
  • Driver and coffin bearer duties on funeral services
  • General cleaning duties

£19,334.64 rising to £23,104.64 + enhancements

Working Hours (Full Time)

Normal working hours would be 8:30 – 5:00pm Monday – Friday

So that we can maintain our 24-hour service to our clients you will be required to participate in an “out of hours” on-call rota
