Don’t treat people as you would like to be treated, treat them as they want to be treated!

I was reminded by a friend earlier this week of a quotation which I think is attributed to an Australian relationship guru which says “Don’t treat people as you would like to be treated, treat them as they want to be treated!”

Now this set me thinking about how often we all make assumptions which are based upon our own values and then, in the firm belief that’s in someone else’s best interest, we “assume” the word or action is right! Well intentioned it may be, but is it safe for me to choose a car for my daughter, a meal at a restaurant for my sister or what colour paint my Mum would like on her walls? Clearly not! That’s why I think that pre-planning our own funeral is something we ought to take seriously! Ok; so you’re not bothered I hear you say! How would you feel then if you’re buried rather than cremated or if that family photo of your “someone special” gets left to the charity shop because the frame is more important than the image or if the music you would like at your funeral is not included?
